The landlady of a city pub has revealed her plans for the future after her first year in charge.

Sarah Johnson and her partner John Hinds have enjoyed a successful start behind the bar having taken on the Belle Vue in Stafford Street in July last year.

And this weekend they will be celebrating their one-year anniversary with live music, karaoke and more.

"It was hard to build everything up from scratch initially as the pub had been open and shut several times in recent years which meant people went elsewhere," Ms Johnson said.

"But over the year we have built a great group of regulars who support us which is fantastic.

"Lots of people have said how warm and welcoming we have made the place which is so lovely to hear."

This is the first pub the couple have run together, having moved from Lowestoft to take over the reins.

And since day one, they never stopped thinking of novel ways to keep their customers entertained.

Whether it is a Find the Joker competition or weekly quiz nights, there is always something on.

"We try really hard to keep people engaged and to offer new things," Ms Johnson said. "We also always ask customers what they would like to see and try to make sure their favourite drink is behind the bar.

"We have made some lovely friends since moving in which is fantastic."

This summer is no different, with lots of events in the works that hope to make the best of the weather, including barbecues and live music in the garden.

Even our four-legged friends won't be left out as a special day just for pups is planned where they can come along and make friends with other dogs.

Ms Johnson added: "We are really looking forward to celebrating with everyone this weekend."
