From a dessert stall to a kiosk offering Hawaiian poke bowls, these independent food businesses are opening in Norwich in July 2023.

 1. The Chocolate Bar Baker

Opening date: July 1 

Sprowston couple Gemma and Chris Wade are opening a new dessert stall at Norwich Market and it builds on the success of their converted horsebox.

Located at Stall 126, it will offer build-you-own dessert cups alongside milkshakes and dippers, with skewers of items such as cheesecake or fruit with melted chocolate and toppings.

2. Waffle 'N' Shake Shack

Opening date: July 2

Chantelle Tyrrell has launched a new mobile dessert business in a converted horsebox and her first event is on Sunday, July 2 outside Holy Trinity Church in Rackheath from 11am to 1pm on the outskirts of the city.

She offers bubble waffles and milkshakes, with options such as Biscoff Dream or Kinder Surprise using Ronaldo's ice cream.

3. Wright's Café

Opening date: July 3 

This café bar will open at 1 Bank Plain, in the former Watsons building, at the start of July.

It is owned by Adam Wright and this will be his third branch, with the other two in Bury St Edmunds and Helmingham in Suffolk.

The offering will include coffee, sweet treats, salads and cheese toasties, with brunch starting on July 10.

4. Poke Nom

Opening date: July 14 

Kate Oliver started Poke Nom in summer 2021 at Holt Sunday Market and she has since been to events across the region offering Hawaiian poke bowls from a catering pod.

She is now expanding into Norwich, with a two-month trial in her pod opposite Superdry outside Chantry Place - if it proves popular she will be there permanently. 

Her homemade poke bowls consist of rice, a protein, such as sushi salmon or teriyaki chicken, sauces and toppings.

5. Dick's Café Bar

Opening date: July but the exact date is TBC 

The new tenant has been revealed for the Frank's Bar site in Bedford Street and it is set to reopen in July.

While many of the details have been kept under wraps, like its predecessor it will be a café bar.
