"I didn't expect you to survive four years."

Those were the words a city hairdresser received from her oncologist in 2013 as she celebrated five years being cancer free.

Now another 10 years on Sue Leeming, who lives in the Golden Triangle, continues to defy the odds by celebrating 15 years cancer free on July 10 at The Assembly House in Theatre Street.

The 57-year-old has gone through plenty of ups and downs since first being diagnosed with breast cancer in 2008.

She said: "My mum died of breast cancer in 2001 which was caught too late sadly.

"I then found a lump during a routine check on June 23, 2008 - I knew what it was.

"The tumours had begun to spread to my right lung so I had surgey in August 2008 while also having a full mastectomy on my right breast.

"Even though I went into remission in March 2009, cancer returning was always in the back of my mind.

"But now it's 15 years and my oncologist called me a miracle.

"I'm honestly in utter shock - it's very emotional."

Sue has since dedicated to nourishing her body with clean food, exercise, mindfulness and meditation.

She added: "I was advised to give up dairy by an alternative therapist and it helped me to get through the chemotherapy.

"So I began to lead a very quiet, much less stressful lifestyle and my body is my temple.

"I then gave up meat about seven and a half years ago and it's really made a difference in how I feel."
