Guests at a hotel in the city centre were evacuated this morning due to a fire.
Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service were called to the Maids Head Hotel in Tombland at 8.30am today (July 2)
A full evacuation was carried out with all guests and staff escorted from the building.
After investigation, fire crews found it was an electrical fire and declared the building safe at 11.30am.
The fire officer in attendance said that the hotel was compliant with regulations and that the hotel’s team had responded in an efficient and appropriate manner.
A full inspection of the hotel by the fire officer had been carried out just six weeks ago.
General manager, Christine Malcolm, said: “Thank you to all our guests for their understanding and to the team who reacted so swiftly and supported and ensured the safety and utmost care of everyone throughout.”
The Maids Head Hotel has been open since the middle of the 1090s and the restaurant is based in the former 15th-century inn.
