Plans to demolish four Norwich buildings to extend the forecourt of a city car dealership have been delayed over dust and noise concerns.

Swans Motor Group in Heigham Street is hoping to knock down neighbouring business units 241, 242, 243 and 245 in the street to expand its plot after the firm was taken over by Jamie Bone, who previously owned Anglia Square Cars.

The car dealer submitted a planning application in May and it was hoped a decision would be reached by July 11.

But now city council officials have told the business that work "shall not begin" until a dust and noise management plan has been submitted, with concerns over risk assessments and plans to manage the removal of on-site asbestos.

In its letter, the city council's environment protection team told the car dealership it needed to protect neighbouring homes from noise, dust and smoke.

Officials told the business it would need to communicate with neighbours before and after work, put in measures to control noise and dust, and make room for a separate compound for cutting and grinding activities.

It is now not known when a decision will be reached.
