A Norwich teenager has spoken of his shock after one of his songs was chosen for play on BBC Radio 1 Xtra.

Lewis Rumsby, 19, from Thurton, has been making dance music in his bedroom since lockdown, but thought he was being scammed when Rave Show presenter Jeremiah Asiamah contacted him asking if he could play his latest creation on air.

Mr Rumsby, who is known as Yobbo, put his house reworking of Jorja Smith's 'Little Things' on Soundcloud and was quickly contacted by the BBC DJ asking if he could use it.

But he did not believe it was really him until he received a follow-up message last week telling him to listen out for it on Friday evening.

The music producer and DJ who is currently training as an engineer and taught himself to make music through trial and error, said he listened in disbelief as the track played on his radio.

He said: "It felt really strange hearing it on the radio to be honest, I was shocked when I heard it.

"The DJ contacted me through Soundcloud and told me he loved my music and asked if he could play the track on his show.

"I thought it was a scam or something, I just didn't believe it. Then he messaged again so I listened in and there it was."

Mr Rumsby began djing as a way to get through lockdown and that quickly spiralled into him producing his own tracks.

He said: "This was the first summery house thing I've done really, I started out doing some DJ sets and then went on to mixing drum and bass stuff.

"But I think I've found my style with house, I seem to have a knack for it and how to make it work.

"To think this was just something to get me through lockdown and now its got national recognition is incredible."
