Multiple dead and dying birds have been found scattered in a Suffolk housing estate after a string of killings.

The first bird was discovered dead from bullet wounds on Tuesday, June 27 on the patio of a house in Carlton Colville.

The incident was then reported to Dan Goldsmith from the Marine and Wildlife Rescue charity by a homeowner who had spotted numerous other wild birds, including pigeons, doves and gulls, being shot while on the roof of their property.

Mr Goldsmith said: "After being contacted, we attended and removed a number of deceased, shot birds - some of which had not died at the time of being shot and had suffered. We eventually had to put them down.

"We accept that not everyone is supportive of wildlife, however taking shots at birds with an air rifle, in a residential area is dangerous and distressing for those who are impacted by the actions.

"It also generates unnecessary work for us at a time of year when we are already swamped."

The shootings were then reported to Suffolk police who are continuing to make enquiries into the circumstances of the incidents.
