Traffic troubles await Norwich City fans heading to Carrow Road for the club's first game of the season as roadworks continue.

The Canaries take on Hull City at 3pm on Saturday in the first game of the Championship campaign, but the usual football road congestion could be worse than usual.

Works to improve safety at the Kett's Hill roundabout have seen the Gurney Road exit closed with the northbound lane on Bishop Bridge Road also shut.

Those approaching from the Plumstead Road direction are being diverted via Sprowston Road.

Riverside Road and Gurney Road are regularly busy on match days but Barrack Street and Ketts Hill will have to be used instead.

The work started on July 3 and is scheduled to conclude on August 11 so should not affect the next Carrow Road game, against Millwall on Sunday, August 20.

The work has been criticised by businesses in the area, with a Mousehold ice cream man saying his trade had been down by 70pc.

One way for Canaries fans to avoid the works could be to park at the derelict former May Gurney site in Trowse, which has made about 700 spaces available to matchday traffic.

The site has been set up in an attempt to ease "anti-social parking" for City games, in return for a small charitable donation.

Parking at County Hall is also available with no need to pre-book.
