Councillors are working to raise awareness of Postwick Park and Ride reopening on a trial basis next month, to ensure that the project doesn't fall flat.

The site has not been used by buses for three years, other than for the month before Christmas last year as a trial, having been converted to a Covid testing site.

Now those travelling in and out of the city are being told to make the most of the service again when it reopens for at least four months on September 4.

Ian Mackie, county councillor for neighbouring Thorpe St Andrew, said: "As with so many things, it's a case of use it or lose it.

"Bringing this park and ride back into operation after the pandemic has always been the aspiration of the council.

"It's a real credit to the county council that it's been able to secure this reopening in challenging financial circumstances.

"Reopening will support sustainable travel options and offer an alternative to city centre parking over the traditionally busy Christmas period, also helping the local economy.

"It's now up to user demand during this period. I hope it's a success."

One way the council are trying to entice people to use the 552-parking place site is reducing the price of tickets across all park and ride services around the city.

From September 4, all-day travel tickets will cost £3 for adults, £2 for concessions and 17 to 19-year-olds and £1.50 for children aged 5 to 16, with under-fives going free.

Eleanor Laming, Green Party councillor for Brundall Ward, added: "I was really pleased to hear that the park and ride would be reopening.

"The planned reduction of ticket prices for all the of the Park and Rides is also a welcome initiative.

"I really hope that as many people as possible will use the service as I, and many others, would like to see it permanently reinstated.

"The council has said it will be advertising the service to residents east of Norwich and those of us who were keen to see the service brought back will also be spreading the word.

"I'd like to see signs in prominent locations along the A47 and Broadland Northway would be helpful, as well as advertising at the other Park and Ride sites."
