An unusual selection of animals could be found in a Norwich park on Wednesday afternoon (August 16).

The Castle Quarter's event in Castle Gardens featured two alpacas, called Fergus and Rafiki, along with a range of other creatures including a skunk, tortoises and ponies.

Unicorn Alpaca Walks, based in Shipmeadow near Beccles, brought the animals to meet curious passers-by.

Kerry Nickolls, co-owner of the organisation, said: "Alpacas are such a relaxing animal so we wanted to let people come and interact with them.

"We're trying to get people to understand that the animals aren't as scary as they think they are."

The venture began when Ms Nickolls adopted the alpacas to act as a fox deterrent and protect her pet chickens.

The organisation has now been running for four years, taking in a range of rescue animals, and it has recently applied for charitable status.

She added: "Everything we make goes straight back into the rescues because they cost a fortune.

"The upkeep costs us between five and seven hundred pounds every month."

There are now 28 alpacas living on the farm.

The creatures were a hit with parents and children and the crowd grew into the afternoon as animal lovers headed to Castle Gardens.
