A volunteer at Anteros Arts Foundation is hosting her own pop-up shop which will introduce artists from Brighton to the city.

Deborah Smith, 53, loved her craft so much that at the age of 48 she went to study at the University of Brighton.

She moved to Norwich just six months ago from Brighton and began volunteering her time at Anteros, in Fye Bridge Street, a month after arriving.

Deborah is a very talented knitter, she said: “My mum taught me to knit as a child and I have dipped in and out of it over the years.

“I started knitting again at the age of 29 while I was pregnant with my son, I then moved on to teaching children how to knit in school when my son was seven.”

Deborah ran children's after-school craft classes for 10 years and has always very much enjoyed organising events.

She said: “I have a lot of artist friends who still live in Brighton, I saw there was a gap in the gallery calendar for three days in the summer.”

Deborah took the opportunity to invite her Brighton friends to visit her beautiful new city, while introducing Norwich folk to her friends' wares which include ceramics, comics, handbags and much more.

She said: “I like all my friends' work, and I wanted to make sure there was variety so that there was something for everyone – 10 of my friends will be joining the pop-up.”

And Deborah urges city folk to attend the pop-up, adding: “There is so much mass production now, we are losing our individuality.

“Handmade items are made with love, and we use our time to create, this makes each gift unique.”

The pop-up takes place at Anteros Arts Foundation from August 29 to 31.
