A hub and charity shop is closing after 11 years to move to bigger premises after growing larger than they had ever imagined.

Dawn's New Horizon, in Sprowston, uses money from sales to support survivors of domestic abuse.

The support can take many forms including paying for counselling, coaching, haircuts, household items, food parcels, help with benefits and much more.

Dame Lorraine Curston, who founded the charity in 2006, said: “I decided to move because the Cannerby Lane shop had become too small for us to continue our services satisfactorily.

“We had outgrown the property and with more people needing support there was nowhere to speak with them privately.

“We were also unable to provide small furniture within the store.

“We had little or no room to store and sort donations, that the public had kindly donated to us.”

The store had also been flooded multiple times and with bad weather approaching they didn’t want to risk this happening again.

Lorraine said: “Our new hub, 12 Corbet Avenue in Sprowston, will be much larger and brighter.

“We have a therapy room where people can come and speak with us in private.

“From our new hub, we will continue to provide our services for the charity as well as providing new services within the property.”

People can donate items to the hub during opening times, with the best sellers proving to be clothing, puzzles, children's toys and household items.

Lorraine added: “Reusing and recycling items is a great way to help the environment.

“Passing on items that you no longer use, that others can use, helps everybody’s budget.”

The grand opening of the new shop will be at 10am on Saturday, September 16.
