City wildlife experts are asking the question of what happened to Norwich’s favourite Eurasian Eagle Owl as Alfie sightings seem to have stopped.
Sighitngs of a very large Eurasian Eagle Owl started surfacing in the city centre in March 2022 with some folk even claiming to have been attacked by the massive bird.
Shortly after two more Eagle Owls escaped in Norwich, Luna, and Buddy.
It was thought that Luna left the city, and Buddy was subsequently caught by his owner nearby the ole Colman's factory.
In November last year Alfie was spotted multiple times a day in Great Yarmouth and it was thought that he had gone on holiday, however, after weeks of sightings they just stopped leaving fans of the giant bird wondering what happened to him.
City wildlife expert Kevin Murphy said: “It is very odd – there was a flurry of sightings and then nothing.
“There were sightings from all around the country at the same time and they all seem to have gone quiet.”
Though Kevin said there are a few things which could have happened to Alife which have resulted in no one seeing him anymore.
He said: “He could have been caught by someone who has decided to keep him quiet, maybe they wanted a pet owl.
“Of course, it could have been caught and handed into a rescue, but they would have advertised to find the owner.
“It is more likely that he flew off to find new territory for himself with suitable prey and space.
“But someone may have even killed him - there is no way of knowing for certain until a new sighting comes forward, but it certainly is strange.”
