Norwich: Fake paramedic made film breaking into ambulance

On two separate occasions, an individual disguised as an ambulance worker was able to gain access to ambulances parked at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital.

One of incidents saw a man film himself breaking into empty emergency vehicles outside the hospital, recording the footage and posting it on social media.

The footage, which is now no longer available, was published on Facebook but has since been deleted after the matter was reported to the police.

A spokesman for the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital said: "We are extremely concerned to hear reports of a member of the public pretending to be a healthcare professional on social media.

"Filming or photography on the grounds of a hospital site, without trust permission, is forbidden.

"This matter is being investigated by the East of England Ambulance Service Trust (EEAST) and has been reported to police."

An EEAST spokesman said: "We are aware of two occasions - on August 18 and 19 - where an individual impersonated a member of staff and gained access to an empty ambulance, which was parked outside the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital.

"We reported this to the police at the time and are assisting them with their enquiries."

Nick Hulme, interim chief executive of the N&N, said: "These incidents are a reminder that we always have to be alert in the hospital.

"We want to encourage the public to feel safe here. We do not have a massive security presence and that would be inappropriate, but this shows there is always a risk.

"We know the person was not a patient and we have been ensured that no physical harm was done to anybody, but we can not be complacent."
