Alice Macdonald, Labour's Norwich North parliamentary candidate, has called for better evening and Sunday bus services as she publishes results from a survey.

The survey, which has so far received some 180 responses, has underlined the need for improvements to the bus system particularly where reliability is concerned.

Commenting on the survey results, she said: “Thanks to everyone who took this survey.

“The findings underline the need for urgent improvements to the current bus system.

“Under the Conservatives broken bus system, local people are losing out.

“Labour would change that giving communities control back over local bus services.”

Ms MacDonald has met with bus providers First and Konectbus and will be sharing the full results of the survey with them as well as with the County Council.

Survey results found that 46pc of people who responded think that Norwich buses are not reliable, and 48pc, nearly half, said that the last time they took a bus it was over ten minutes late.

This comes as a city man's eight-mile journey to Blofield took more than three hours because of buses not showing up and then terminating early.

One specific ask that has been raised is for late evening and Sunday bus services particularly in the Thorpe St Andrew North West area of the constituency on the 24-bus route.

Commenting on the results, Thorpe St Andrew Town Councillor and candidate for the upcoming district by-election, Carol Ferris said: “Many people have told us that the bus services they need in Thorpe St Andrew just aren’t available.

“We’ll be calling on local bus companies and the county council to listen to residents here and provide Sunday and late evening services on the 24 bus route”
