A city woman has achieved her goal of helping Team GB reach a podium finish in an equestrian tournament that took place in France. 

Tamsin Conyers has been riding since she was a child and taken part in competitive jumping since she was 15 years old.

The 50-year-old, who has owned Weston Equestrian Centre, in NR9, for the last 17 years joined four of her compatriots to take part in the European Veteran Championships.

The event was held in Hardelot, France, around 50 minutes away from Calais from September 7 to 10 and consisted of both team jumping and individual performances.

Tamsin, who competed with her home-bred 10-year-old horse, Sunny, said her first overseas competition was "fabulous".

"It was a great experience because I got to travel with an amazing team of people and came away with a fantastic result as well.

"I absolutely loved it."

Team GB finished in second place in the team competition while Tamsin came fourth, behind teammates James Loffet and Nicola Frankland, who finished second and third respectively.

Tamsin added: "I didn't expect to be that high up at the end, so to get those results and prove I belonged with all these other competitors is great.

"Sunny jumped brilliantly and excelled considering the temperature was around 35C.

"My parents also came out with my boyfriend to cheer me on as well, which made my first time out there really special."

Tamsin and Sunny have enjoyed a successful year by also qualifying for Horse of the Year - a competition held at The NEC in Birmingham, from October 4.

Tamsin added Sunny will soon get a well-earned break, saying: "He'll have a well-deserved holiday after October and get some much-needed rest."
