Folk living in a Norwich suburb are still waiting for a busy road into the city to reopen despite Anglian Water insisting it has finished work to fix a burst water main.

Steve Williams, who lives in Costessey, raised concerns when the site on Norwich Road between Cabin Road and Gunton Lane was empty with no one working on it for two days on Sunday and Monday after work began on Friday.

This morning Mr Williams noticed workers had failed to show again despite the site causing major disruption in the area, with a bus stop closed and a long diversion route around Dereham Road in place.

But now Anglian Water says work at the site has finished and it is waiting for a third party to clear the site and reopen the road.

An Anglian Water spokesman said: "Our teams at Anglian Water completed the repair over the weekend and so have now finished on site.

"It is now the responsibility of a third-party company to work on reinstating the road.

"We’ve been informed work should begin tomorrow and be completed by end of the week, all going well."

Mr Williams says he finds the situation "ludicrous" and claims there are no signs at the site to say the bus stop is closed, confusing passengers in the process. He also says diversion signs are not clear.

He said: "There's no one out there again this morning, you would think they'd be in a hurry given what a busy road it is.

"Nobody can get anywhere and I have seen people getting confused when the bus doesn't turn up."

Mr Williams also raised concerns that a tap was left on over the weekend with water spraying out across the path, washing sand across the street.
