City folk have reported seeing scarily large numbers of fleas taking over their homes in recent weeks with many claiming that over-the-counter treatments haven’t touched the problem.
People taking dogs for their usual walk have been shocked to return home to find they are mid infestation.
A woman living in NR3, who wishes to remain anonymous, said: “I went on the same walk I do every lunchtime with my dog and when I got home, I could see fleas crawling over her face, when I checked her back, they were all over her.

“I’ve never seen it this bad before, I’m scared to let my dog on grass.”
Chris Tomlinson, director at Rackheath Vets, said: “The warm weather this summer and rain has produced ideal conditions for a flea explosion.
“The fleas you see on your pet is just the tip of the iceberg with far greater eggs, larvae and pupae present in the home environment.

“Often cats are the main source of bringing fleas into the house as they tend to wander off and lie in places that infected cats have been.”
But Chris said that the creepy pets can be controlled although not often with over the counter stuff with products from the vet being far more effective.
He said: “As well as this wash all their blankets in a hot wash which will kill off all forms of the life cycle.”
A city pest controller, Andrew Delbridge of Ace Pest Control, has also seen record breaking reports.
He said: “Even homes without pets are getting hoards of them and we’ve seen that reliable pest treatments are failing due to the massive plague like populations outside.
“The best thing to do is call a vet or a professional and get immediate advice.”
