A Norwich-based security and events company is paving the way for providing a real living wage to workers.  

Phoenix Events, East Ltd provide security guards and event staff to sites, businesses, and events all over East Anglia and beyond.  

Now, the company is hailed for its work in promoting a living wage for all employees.  

Following this work the company has been awarded ‘employees' choice’ award at the living wage championships.

The annunal living wage champion awards celebrate individuals and organisations that have made an outstanding contribution to the living wage movement.  

The award was voted for by their staff who believe their employer is fully committed to providing a real living wage as opposed to the National minimum wage.  

Adam Harding, director, Phoenix Events, East Ltd, who lives in Norwich said: “We as a company are proud to be one of the initial companies recognising the real cost of living in Norfolk and paying accordingly, this has definitely increased the strength of our workforce.

“We advocate for the Living Wage in Norfolk and have formed part of the Norwich living wage action group; we truly believe that paying the Living wage will have benefits to the whole economic industry.” 

Katherine Chapman, Director, Living Wage Foundation, said: " The Living Wage movement has never been stronger, and in the current cost of living crisis, it has never mattered more.  

“Nearly 13,000 Living Wage Employers have recognised this and signed up to ensure that everyone who works for them, including third party contractors like cleaners and security guards, earns a wage that meets everyday needs.”

The real Living Wage is an hourly rate of pay set independently and updated annually, not the UK government’s National Living Wage.  

It is calculated according to the basic cost of living in the UK, and employers choose to pay the Living Wage on a voluntary basis
