Syringes and beer cans are just some of the debris which is plaguing one of Norwich's oldest landmarks.
Black Tower and Wall, off Carrow Hill in NR1, was mostly used as part of the wall and gate that would stop boats from entering the city and collect tolls at Carrow Bridge.
But now the site - which dates back to the 14th century - is home to a "hideous mess" including leftover bottles and drug paraphernalia.
Lewis Gollard lives in Thorpe Road and says he and his partner have always been bothered by how unclean the area is.
Lewis, 31, said: "One of the biggest reasons which brought me to Norfolk was how much nature surrounds it, so it saddens me to see the constant disrespect of where I live.

"A recent trip along the castle wall and tower led me to discover a hideous mess.
"The floor was covered in beer cans, bottles and all kinds of other rubbish.
"I even photographed a used syringe of some sort laying there, while two people were smoking cannabis nearby.
"For such a historic spot, it's a very displeasing and discomforting area to be in.
"I can only hope that no women, or children in particular, would have to walk through at that time."
The issue has become so bad that Lewis has decided to take matters into his own hands, setting up Instagram account @TidyMindsNorwich to highlight what goes on in the area while helping clear up the debris.

He added: "I bought myself a couple of bin loops, litter pickers and set up the social media page to document what's happening.
"Every time I go out now, I see litter everywhere so I'm going to deal with it myself.
"Other parts of Norwich seem as though they are regularly cleaned - I just wish the same care existed here."
