The owner of a vegan butcher business is launching a pop-up in a city shopping centre.

Vegan food store, Vishcakes and Vibs, will open its doors in Castle Quarter on October 13.

The firm is owned and run by Clare-Marie Heapy who previously ran the Little Vegan Butcher shop in Rose Lane.

"I originally set up the business with my husband but it’s just me now," she said. "I’m throwing everything into it.

“It’s an exciting time for me as an independent food business and I want to fully embrace this opportunity at Castle Quarter."

The firm offers a range of plant-based dishes to cook at home, including vegan alternatives to fishcakes, sausages, ribs and steak patties.

Every product on sale is handmade from locally sourced ingredients.

Rob Bradley, Castle Quarter's general manager, first talked about the new pop-up scheme in May and is delighted to reveal the first tenant.

He said: “The pop-up shop scheme allows local, specialist, independent brands to sign up to a city centre shop, on a temporary basis, giving small businesses the chance to rent a unit from as little as one day for up to three months.

"There’s the chance to take on a long-term lease if both parties wish.

"It’s a flexible way for us to bring in a variety of exciting independents and for businesses like Clare-Marie’s, to open and test their business in a high footfall location without the pressure of a long-term lease."

Vishcakes and Vibs will be located next to Grape Tree on Level 1 and will open from Tuesday to Saturday between 10am and 4pm.

As an opening weekend offer, customers can get 15pc off all purchases made this Friday and Saturday.
