Plans to bring Norwich's former Toys R Us store back into use have been given the green light. 

Discount store Home Bargains will be opening in units A and C of Cathedral Retail Park in Westwick Street, five years after the toy retailer left one of the units - with the other previously held by Peacocks.

The retailer will merge the two together and refurbish the interiors, which it says are in "poor condition".

The new store will also employ 100 members of staff and reduce car parking spaces by 10.

The application had initially been delayed after Norfolk County Council officials asked Home Bargains to install electric vehicle charging points at the on-site car parking before work on the store begins, but has now been approved by Norwich City Council.

The county council also requested detailed drawings for off-site highway improvement works - which must be completed before Home Bargains opens.

A decision is still to be reached on a licence application to the city council to serve food and drink on the premises between 8am and 9pm on weekends and bank holidays.

According to the plans, about 30pc of the shop's floor space would be used for food and drink products.
