Bonfire Night is nearly upon us but are the people of the Fine City in favour of fireworks or sick of the big booms?

Eve Parsons, 30, works at a fruit and veg stall on the market and is planning to go to a family event.

Her cats can get scared of fireworks but she added: “I guess you’ve got to be aware of that if you get a pet.”

Sandra Simpson, 68, works at Norwich Magistrates Court and is not a fan.

“I think fireworks are a bit of a nuisance," she said.

“I don’t want it to end, it’s a tradition, but them going off early annoys me.”

Simon Leeder, 40, is a mental health nurse from Norwich who said he can “take it or leave it" when it comes to Guy Fawkes Night.

His local Facebook group called for a fireworks ban but Simon said: “I don’t know why you’d want to ruin it for everyone.”

Jonn Watson, 42, from Cheshire, is co-manager of the PACT animal sanctuary shop in the Lanes.

He has an English bull terrier and a chihuahua and says they don’t care about fireworks.

“Just keep it to a week or two over Bonfire Night and Halloween,” he said.

Gary Pegg, 65, from Holt, owns a chippy and has been an on-call firefighter for 44 years.

“Years ago we had lads setting fire to Beeston Common," he recalled.

“I think people are less unruly now.”

Bear, 38, from Beccles, does battle reenactments and is organising a big Bonfire Night event for friends and family.

He said: “Now we have a dog we’re worried he might be spooked by the fireworks, but he’s been around gunfire and was fine.”

Linda Coates, 62, is retired and has no plans to get involved.

“I don’t like fireworks," she said. "They’re not good for pets and they seem to go on for two weeks before and two weeks after.”
