A man has been charged after a police officer was strangled in Norwich.
Police officers were called to Starling Road just before 1pm on Tuesday following a report a man was shouting outside a property and attempting to break into the address.
Officers attended the property and a man aged in his 40s was arrested at the scene.
A male officer was strangled during the incident and was taken to the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital for treatment.
He has since been discharged.
The man was taken to Wymondham police station for questioning.
John Charlton, age 43, of William Kett Close in Norwich, has subsequently been charged with assaulting an emergency worker and intentionally strangling an emergency worker.
He appeared at Norwich Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday and was bailed ahead of his next court appearance on December 13.
