Norwich Cathedral was filled with candlelight for a special service.

To celebrate the start of Advent, 750 people came together for a candlelit procession.

The Dean of Norwich, the Very Rev Andrew Braddock, said: “The service wove together the themes of waiting and hope as we reflected on the light of God’s love shining in the darkness of the world.

"It was a powerful start to Advent and our preparations for Christmas."

The preparations for Christmas will continue at the cathedral’s free Advent Open Evening on Wednesday.

There will be festive craft activities for children, guided tours and seasonal music played on the organ during the open evening.

There will also be the chance to hang a star on the Tree of Remembrance outside the Hostry and light candles in the Cathedral’s Nave. 

There is lots more to enjoy as the countdown to Christmas continues, with the occasion also serving as a return for the Cathedral organ which has undergone a £1.8m rebuild to preserve the historic instrument for generations to come.
