In these few weeks leading up to Christmas, when the nights draw in early and the frost glows on the window panes, there is nothing finer and more deserved than a good roast dinner.

Blue's Kitchen launched its Sunday roasts at the Rosebery pub in NR3 only a few years ago which have since grown to such near-legend status among foodies that co-owner and chef Andy Charnock was more than inclined to open a second venue.

Choosing The Crown Point Tavern in Norwich's idyllic suburb of Trowse as its second location, Blue's continues to offer its hearty, honest-to-goodness lunches in peaceful settings.

My partner and I arrived at the pub for our reservation at 3pm on a Sunday and were seated without delay in the pub's dedicated eating section toward the back.

I was already confident that Blue's had chosen well in its follow-up venue and was quickly assured of it when we saw how busy and happy the place was.

We were sat in the far-most corner by the fireplace which was the perfect spot to watch diners enjoying their meals and the atmosphere was perfectly cosy for a December afternoon.

Soon upon sitting our drink order was taken. My partner had a pint of Amstel (£5.20) and I tried the Moretti (£5.20) which came promptly afterwards.

The pub and kitchen operate separately while part of a whole, with drink orders paid to The Crown Point and food to Blue's, so expect two receipts at the end of your meal.

For mains, I ordered Blue's famous "All the meats" (£19.50) which comes with all three roast meats; free-range chicken supreme, 28-day aged sirloin and Blythburgh pork belly with crackling.

You can also have these individually which is how my partner ordered her pork (£17.50), getting slightly more in a single portion.

We also had a side of their mature cheddar cauliflower cheese that comes with a perfect crust and just the right bite.

But the main attraction is the roasts which blow any and all competition away.

With its rich and winey gravy and choice cuts, each meat offering is succulent, expertly braised and tender. There is also a vegan, vegetarian and kids' menu option.

The confit rolled Blythburgh pork belly is a particular highlight, crumbling to the fork's touch and absolutely delicious when paired with the marmalade glazed carrots.

Those who swear by Yorkshire puddings will not be disappointed with the small dinner plate-sized pud that comes with each roast, as well as its more-than-plenty roast potatoes (which could do with being a little more roasted) and always-extra gravy.

To top it all off, we had the sticky toffee pudding (£7) which comes in a butterscotch sauce with clotted cream ice cream.

The sweetness of the sauce and chewiness of the raisins is a treat to the tongue after the savouriness of the mains and we couldn't have eaten another bite once we were done.

All in all, Blue's Kitchen has knocked it out of the park yet again with its soul-warming fare and hit the jackpot of countryside charm in The Crown Point Tavern. Highly recommend.
