1. The Bun X at The Micawbers Tavern, Pottergate

Georgina Taylor, social media editor, said: "It is a bold statement, but this place serves up the best burgers in the city.

"The burgers we ate were loaded with flavour, cheese and their house BX sauce.

"The chips at The Bun X are crispy and fresh and the sides are all mouth-watering."

2. The York, Leicester Street

Louisa Baldwin, what's on editor, said: "Friendly couple Wendy and Joe moved from London to Norwich to take on The York earlier this year.

"From a giant pork chop to a recent Christmas feast with all the trimmings, every meal I have had there has been delicious.

"They also switch up the menu regularly depending on what is in season."

3. The Waffle House, St Giles Street

Dan Grimmer, specialist reporter, said: "It is a Norwich institution and it even got the Hollywood seal of approval in 2023 when The Greatest Showman star Hugh Jackman popped in for lunch.

"The Wolverine actor clearly has good taste, as anyone who has tucked into the delicious waffles over the decades will testify.

"Interesting seasonal specials are always worth trying.

"Savoury classics, such as beef bolognese and bang bang chicken, are staples of the menu, with tasty breakfast and brunch waffles available too. 

"Sweet waffles are also on offer and the milkshakes are excellent."

4. Yard, Pottergate 

Eleanor Storey, live news reporter, said: "Since Yard introduced its new vegetarian options it has become my favourite restaurant in the city.

"The vegan carbonara is incredible (as are both of the desserts - tiramisu or an ice-cream stuffed croissant) and the value for money is unbeatable."

5. Saporita, St Andrews Hill 

William Warnes, reporter, said: "It has a cosy and warm atmosphere, which helps create a sense that you have been transported to a restaurant in the Tuscan countryside."

6. Haggle, St Benedicts Street

Ollie Radcliffe, live news reporter, said: "Haggle is a stunning restaurant in St Benedicts Street, offering some of the best Turkish and Middle Eastern food I have ever tasted. 

"The mezze menu gives you a great chance to try all sorts of different dishes - from fresh salads to traditional grilled meats.

"The cocktails are also worth a special mention, with The Old Fashioned Turk being a particular favourite of mine."

7. Zaks Mousehold, Gurney Road

David Hannant, specialist reporter, said: "There is a reason Zaks has been able to stick around in Norfolk for more than 40 years – it is great value and the food never disappoints.

You will struggle to find better chicken wings and on a Wednesday they are all-you-can-eat for £12 – what’s not to love?
