A homelessness charity that was turfed out of its previous premises almost a year ago has received a lifeline from county businesses to help it continue.

Anon, a charity which helps homeless people and those facing food poverty, was previously housed in an old Wymondham Town Council building from December 2020.

However, early in 2023, Anon was told its tenancy was up as the authority needed the building back – leaving the charity facing homelessness itself

Following a plea in this newspaper, Anon has been able to work with four generous organisations to get almost the same amount of space as they had previously.

Team leader, Nicila Collier, said:  “We reached out to everyone we could think of.

“We are self-funded and our money goes into supporting those who need it so the funds weren’t there to rent somewhere.

“Fortunately, following our cry for help, we were approached by Wymondham Methodist Church in Town Green, Barford Van Hire and a charities warehouse in central Norwich with storage space.

“We were also given use of an unused kitchen in Fairland United Reformed Church in Wymondham which we now use as a base as we have access 24 hours.

“Our old premises were rather large consisting of four big rooms and various cupboard space, so we were able to accept every donation.”

Thanks to the use of these buildings Anon is almost back up to the same space they had – which is needed as the demand for what they do in the community has not lessened.

Nicila said: “We still make some 120 meals on a Sunday and people who are homeless or facing food poverty can queue up for a meal with no questions asked.

“Anything left over will go towards helping families facing food poverty, which we have seen a massive increase in.”

Anon is always looking for new volunteers and donations which can be arranged via its website.
