A city performer who feared he was going to be forced out of his home has breathed a big sigh of relief.

Henri Jeremy Leigh, a well-known performer from the Norwich drag scene, has lived in his Burgh Castle caravan all his life.

The 24-year-old was distraught when the ground rent went up far beyond what he could afford and in October was worried he was at risk of losing his home.

He previously said: “It’s important for me to stay where I am because it is safety, security and accessibility.

“I tried a house before and between my physical needs and my autism, I hated it.”

Due to various health challenges including epilepsy and scoliosis, which leave him using a walking stick or wheelchair at times, Henri cannot work a full week and so works as a drag king at events in Norwich.

This leaves him reliant on these gigs to earn money for rent, food and bills.

Friends rallied around and helped to raise £1,300 through a crowdfunding campaign and a show put on by city drag performers Soda Pop and The Duke, allowing Henri to pay his 2024 ground rent in full.

He said: “It feels wonderful to have kept the caravan, Soda Pop and The Duke worked so hard to help me.”

But with the cost of living continuing to rise, Henri is already having to come up with a plan for next year so that he can ensure he remains in his home.

He said: “There is every possibility the rent could go up again, so I want to make sure I get booked enough this year to cover it all.

“I will be prioritising shows that are paying my full rates plus travel as I made a huge loss on travel last year.”

Henri will also be focusing on local shows as he is physically able to do more if it is closer to his home.

He can be booked via his King William Experience account on Instagram.
