A city takeaway has closed after being slapped with a rare ZERO-STAR hygiene rating by food inspectors.

All In One, in Mile Cross, was told by Norwich City Council that "urgent improvement was necessary" following a February 6 inspection.

The report warned that "formal enforcement action is likely" if the Aylsham Road business had not made significant improvements before the next inspection.

All in One sells food including fried chicken, fish and chips, kebabs and pizza.

The inspectors said it was "failing to comply with the law" in several areas, including its food hygiene and safety.

According to the report, "fresh rat droppings" were found on the floor of the store housing chest freezers containing food.

"An uncovered whole raw chicken" was found in the upright fridge and the inspectors also discovered a doner meat knife with a "badly melted handle" and a white cutting board that was "badly stained and mildewed".

The shop did not have a system for warning customers about allergens, which is a legal requirement.

The report continued by saying that cross-contamination is a risk "due to shared raw and ready-to-eat food contacting surfaces" that were not being sanitised.

It also pointed to a member of staff going to purchase a bottle of sanitiser during the inspection, but this was not up to standards.

A cleaning sponge was disintegrating and a wire scouring pad was "clogged with a thick and congealed greasy deposit."

The insides of the fridges were described as "dirty," there was no soap in the hand basin and staff did not wash their hands regularly, according to the report.

All In One has now closed and the owner has declined to comment further on the report.

A city council spokesman said that the business was not asked to close, but its voluntary decision to do so was welcomed.
