A city business will close less than a year after opening as its owners have decided the time is right to sell up.

Bricks Hairdressing first opened its doors to customers in Magdalen Street last May following a £44,000 renovation undertaken by owners Alex and Lauren Barratt.

The Brooke couple had owned the building for 22 years before they decided to turn it into a salon as Lauren's other business, Stone Hairdressing in Wensum Street, had proven so successful.

Lauren, 43, said: "We enjoyed running Bricks so much but it is time to move on.

"Sadly, the salon just didn't get busy enough quickly enough.

"Our last day open will be Saturday, April 13."

While opening the second salon was an exciting opportunity for the couple, the reality of running two businesses hit home quickly.

"Both Alex and I have been working two jobs to try and make the salon a success," said Lauren.

"We were just getting burnt out by doing that, and it feels like the right time to stop."

This was the first time that the hairdresser had teamed up with her husband, who took on the role of business manager.

"I don't think that running Bricks was quite what my husband thought it would be," added Lauren.

The £44,000 worth of renovations turned the property into a salon that has space for nine hairdressers.

The building is up for sale for £295,000 and is listed as having the potential for residential space above.
