An award-winning actor is swapping soaps for the stage as his latest role since exiting EastEnders is revealed.
Max Bowden is best known for playing Justin Fitzgerald in Waterloo Road and Ben Mitchell in EastEnders.
His exit from the latter was aired on BBC One this week, with scenes that saw his character arrested for credit card fraud in America.

He has now been cast as Jack Firebrace in Birdsong, which is heading to Norwich Theatre Royal from November 12 to 16 2024.
It is adapted from Sebastian Faulks' epic story of love and loss, with the bestselling novel released in 1993.

The critically acclaimed show, adapted by Rachel Wagstaff and directed by Alastair Whatley, tells the story of one man’s journey through an all-consuming love affair and into the horror of the First World War.
Max Bowden said: “Birdsong highlights the tragedy of war, yet the beauty of humanity simultaneously through strong relationships under extreme circumstances, and I can’t wait to bring Jack Firebrace to life."
Bowden previously starred in the 2016 tour of Birdsong as young soldier Tipper.
