An ethically-minded barber shop in one of the city's historical shopping avenues has closed unexpectedly less than a year since opening. 

The Ethical Hairdresser was opened in Norwich's Royal Arcade last summer by industry veteran Ric Gardner-Collis. 

The unit, formerly a chocolate shop, was designed by Jack Kinsey who was runner-up in the fourth series of Interior Design Masters on BBC One.

Ric said ahead of its opening last year that the business would be committed to sustainability by using products that are organic, biodynamic, vegan, cruelty-free and plastic-free.

He added: "I am thrilled to be opening soon in the Royal Arcade - I wouldn't want to be anywhere else."

But after just eight months, the shop has suddenly been left vacant.

A Royal Arcade spokesman said: "We can confirm that The Ethical Hairdresser business has informed us of their immediate departure from their unit as they have ceased trading."

The reason for its sudden closure is currently unknown and no other business is yet planned to take over the space.
