A county and district councillor who died after an accidental fall has had a road in a new housing development named after him.

A road in a new 90-home development in Wymondham has been named Duffin Drive, in tribute to Barry Duffin.

Mr Duffin, 74, died at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital in April last year after suffering an intracranial haemorrhage following an accidental fall.

He had served as a Conservative councillor for Forncett, which also includes Tacolneston, Tharston and Hapton and Wacton, at South Norfolk Council for eight years, having first been elected in 2015.

He had represented the division of West Depwade at Norfolk County Council since 2021.

But among Norfolk-born Mr Duffin's other roles were as a board member at housing association Saffron Housing Trust and as chairman of Long Stratton-based building company Crocus Homes.

And his former colleagues decided to name a street after Mr Duffin in their newly built Lavender Meadow housing development in Wymondham.

Mr Duffin's wife Pam and their daughter Kate attended a commemorative event on Friday where the road was officially named.

They were joined by Mr Duffin's former Saffron Housing Trust colleagues and Mr Duffin's former district council leader Lord Fuller.

James Francis, chief executive officer at Saffron Housing Trust said: "Barry was a much-loved friend, colleague and board member at Saffron Housing Trust and Crocus Homes.

“He helped so many communities within our region as a councillor, and it seems fitting, due to his passion towards supporting and building communities, that we have named one of the streets on the development Duffin Drive

"We hope the naming of Duffin Drive is a tribute to Barry’s significant contribution."

Mr Duffin had spent almost 30 years as a member of Ashwellthorpe Parish Council and had chaired the South Norfolk Council Conservative Group.

The new homes in Lavender Meadow have been built by property developer Lovells.

Work began on the site in January 2022, with the final phase of the development completed this month.
