An 80ft tree has left a trail of destruction after crashing down into a neighbour's garden just minutes after a woman was standing beneath it.

Frances Calver moved to Drayton around five years ago and contacted Broadland District Council two years ago to raise concerns about their neighbour's beech tree hanging over their back garden.

Despite asking if part of the tree - which already had a Tree Preservation Order (TPO) on it - could be trimmed no checks or visits to their Drayton High Road home were carried out.

At around 2.30pm last Thursday the huge tree fell into Mrs Calver's garden - where she had been standing just five minutes before - leaving her shaken and frightened.

Mrs Calver, 69, said: "I was down the end of our garden with the dogs about five minutes before the tree fell.

"I could hear the tree already rustling so I went back inside and by the time I got to the kitchen there was an almighty crash.

"It was frightening and I was even shaken up for a couple of days after it happened.

"It's demolished two sheds and our fencing - just absolutely devastated the garden - it looks like a warzone at the moment.

Mrs Calver added the situation could have been avoided.

"We raised concerns two years ago and nothing was done - no one came out to look at it and didn't even seem interested," she said.

"This easily could've been avoided if more proactive action was taken."
