A free family event featuring live music, performers, street food and stalls will be taking place just outside Norwich this summer.

The Great Big Green Picnic will be held at Hethersett Village Hall on June 30, bringing a blend of entertainment, awareness and learning.

There will be a performance from Britain's Got Talent Mr Sam the Magic Man, live music from The Manifest, a tent where children can listen to environmental-themed stories, a green-themed fancy dress competition and a giant snakes and ladders game.

Hosted by Hethersett Parish Council in coordination with Hethersett's Environmental Action Team, the event is dedicated to promoting sustainability and raising environmental awareness on a local level.

Expert speaker sessions on subjects will include What on Earth is Biodiversity? by Dr Anne Edwards, Wildlife Friendly Gardens - without becoming wild by Dr Ian Bedford and demonstrations by South Norfolk Council's recycling team and Norfolk County Council's Master Composters.

Guests are invited to bring along their own picnic to the event but there will also be vegan street food available from Rambling Roots.

Craftily Mobile Bar Hire will be on hand for locally sourced craft ale, beer and gins, and Frosty's Ice Cream will be serving up sweet treats including ice cream and cakes.

Numerous stall holders including Smarter Travel and Friends of the Earth will have information, giveaways and demonstrations alongside face painting, eco-friendly products, crafts and plant stalls.

Parking at the village hall is limited so people are encouraged to walk to the event or use public transport where possible.

Michelle Baker, managing director for Persimmon Anglia, sponsor of the event, said: “At Persimmon we pride ourselves on building more than just new homes, we build communities.

"We are delighted to be able to support this event which will bring the village together and create a positive legacy in Hethersett .”
