Up to 10 new homes may be built on a plot of land near the city that was approved for development more than a decade ago.

Hedley Planning Services intends to submit an application on behalf of No Limits Properties Ltd for the construction of the homes on the edge of Norwich Road, Poringland.

Outline planning permission for commercial use and associated parking on the land was granted in 2012 but it was not developed because of a lack of interest.

The new application will see it changed to residential use instead, with a mix of one, two and three-bedroom homes built.

According to Hedley, the half-acre area will be landscaped and there will be a 10pc biodiversity net gain, however, it doesn't specify how.

A public consultation is under way with a deadline of Monday, June 10.

Poringland has seen its population boom in recent years, with large housing projects built to the north and south as demand increases.

Around 4,300 people live in the village, up from 3,802 at the time of the 2011 census.
