A city pub which had "thousands" of pounds stolen over the Christmas period will not receive justice after the case was closed by police.

Between Christmas Eve and Boxing Day last year a combination of staff tips, company takings and customer donations were pilfered at The Black Horse, in Earlham Road.

Rose Hanison, who has owned the pub since 2015, found out about the theft on Boxing Day when the pub's manager realised the money was not in its usual secure location.

On December 27, police officers and forensic investigators attended the scene to begin the burglary probe, after the incident was reported.

A post went out on Instagram shortly afterwards, appealing for anyone in the NR2 area with information to come forward to help track down those involved.

Despite Rose initially claiming there were some "strong eyewitness reports" from people, five months on police have not found any culprits.

A police spokeswoman said: "All lines of enquiry have been exhausted and the case has been closed.

"Of course, we would always review any new information provided to us."

Rose, 38, said the theft had been "devastating" for everyone.

"I spent £700 getting the locks changed and upgrading the CCTV at the pub after it happened," she added.

"I live above the pub and was told there was evidence the person also accessed my home, which made me feel violated and vulnerable.

"There was so much money in there which was stolen - it was absolutely devastating for all of us.

"My staff were so upset, as tips are extremely important for them and a reward for how hard they work."
