Traffic woes are continuing to plague drivers to the south of Norwich.

Lengthy diversions and doubled journey times caused by numerous and simultaneous roadworks have impacted Silfield, on the edge of Wymondham, in recent months.

People complained of feeling cut off and isolated from nearby towns, with Suzanne Nuri-Nixon, chairwoman of Wymondham Town Council, saying they were "fed up".

And just weeks after Anglian Water completed pipe repairs which saw Cemetery Lane and Station Road closed, a new raft of works has caused fresh disruption.

"Such a pity that all these things can't be coordinated at the same time," Ms Nuri-Nixon said.

"Current roadworks by the train station in Wymondham will last around eight days but there are more to come because electricity is still to be done."

The councillor was previously forced on a 12-mile diversion through Ashwellthorpe into Wymondham, more than double her usual journey length.

She added in light of the new traffic restrictions: "The dreadful thing here is the absolute lack of communication.

"This morning, I saw two buses stuck for at least 15 minutes each and school runs are a nightmare at present, with kids turning up late to school because of it.

"If people are forewarned, they can make alternative travel plans and I will be seeking answers as to why Silfieldsiders have again been completely overlooked and just left to get on with sitting in traffic when they could use alternative routes."

She advised drivers to find other ways around and to leave space for vehicles turning into Co-op and Philip Ford Way Estate because blocking these entrances causes problems.

The temporary traffic lights were put in Station Road on Monday and are due to remain in place until June 14, as BT Openreach carry out work.
