A pub on the city outskirts will soon undergo a rebrand amidst an ongoing planning squabble.

Thorpe Marriott pub The Otter, owned by Greene King, has been granted permission by Broadland District Council to change its name as part of a transformation project.

The pub, which first opened in 1991, will soon become known as The Old Mill as a nod to the history of mills in the area.

The new name is not the only change planned for the pub.

A spokesman for Greene King explained: "We are planning a rejuvenating refurbishment of this pub which is close to Norwich.

"The refurbishment will see a change of first impressions externally with new high-impact signage and lighting.

"The pub will look more welcoming and diner-friendly upon entering."

The Otter is currently caught in the midst of a planning row, having sparked concerns among locals after applying for some garden upgrades, including the installation of a pergola and a covered walkway, as well as a walk-in freezer.

Broadland planners are yet to reach a decision about the rest of the proposed changes.
