Plans have been lodged for a new community workshop at a popular garden just outside the city.

The Walled Garden, in Old Hall Road, Little Plumstead, is applying to build a 25-foot-long outdoor unit for use as a full-time work studio.

It would be located on the eastern side of the garden which is surrounded by a tall brick wall that dates back to the early 19th century.

The planning application states that the new workshop would be used by volunteers to carry out hobbies as well as other community activities.

The garden itself is also managed by volunteers.

Also in the Victorian-era garden is a shop and cafe which sells local produce, food, snacks and drinks.

The 3359 square metre space was fully restored by a "passionate" team in early 2017 after Little Plumstead, Great Plumstead and Thorpe End all lost their shops and post offices.

In July 2019 the land was passed to the parish council from the developer and its lease was signed over to the Community Benefit Society.
