A former bank in the city centre may become a new kitchen and bar.

Mohamed Sakim has submitted plans to Norwich City Council for a premises license at 69 London Street, formerly the Cooperative Bank. 

The business would be called Amelia's and it would be open from 11am to 11pm Monday to Saturday and 12pm to 10pm on Sunday.

The applicant has not sought permission for live music, dance facilities or events.

Early designs for the interior space show the bank's conference rooms removed and 15 dining tables installed, with seating for up to 46 people.

The building has a long history with banking societies, once home to the District Bank and Westminster Bank which opened in 1920. 

It closed in 1973 after becoming the National Westminster Bank in 1970, moving operations to 45 - 51 London Street. 

The Cooperative Bank was in 69 London Street for more than two decades but moved to a former H Samuel unit in Gentleman's Walk last December.
