A city suburb can finally breathe a sigh of relief after a faulty streetlight is once again shining over the community.

The light in Church View Close, Sprowston, has been fixed after a new bulb was fitted roughly six months after it went out.

Pauline Peters who lives in the area, thanked this newspaper for helping get the issue sorted.

The 83-year-old said: "At last it's on.

"The engineers came back and put a new bulb in, so it's been working since the start of the month.

"It took such a long time to actually get done, but at least it's on again.

"The ironic thing is because it's summer it's so light outside it doesn't need to come on, but we'll need it for the winter.

"A lot of the people who live here are a little older and the ground around there is uneven, so if any of us were to have tripped, or fallen there, it could've ended up being serious.

"So it will make the cut-through safer when it begins getting darker again."

Part of their road near the streetlight was dug up near a cut-through, which leads to Blenheim Road, in December by Anglian Water as part of a separate project.

A couple of weeks after the work was finished, the light didn't come back on, with some too afraid to walk down the cut-through it overlooks.

At the time Anglian Water said it was liaising with UK Power Networks and expected the light to be switched on at the beginning of February.

Pauline said she was scared of walking down the cut-through in the dark as "someone could be hiding in the hedges and could jump out".

She said: "The only thing I can think of doing is go up there and fix it myself but I‘m 83 and I don’t think that would be a good idea."
