Drivers have been astonished at the slow response to fixing broken traffic lights at a major city junction.

The lights at Trowse interchange have been broken all day leaving motorists in disbelief at the lack of urgency given to the repairs.

Connecting the A146 and the A47, the junction is a key route for travelling towards Great Yarmouth or heading south.

Julie White, a motorist who made the crossing at 10.30am, said: "I just can't believe it, it really is just bonkers.

"I had to cross over two lanes of busy oncoming traffic, which is especially hard when you can barely see around the bend.

"I felt like I was taking my life into my own hands."

A 53-year-old driver came from Great Yarmouth on the A47 and had to negotiate his way into Norwich.

"It was a bit chaotic. Cars were gingerly pulling out when there were gaps," he said.

"It was an accident waiting to happen if people made a misjudgement pulling out into another lane."

As of 4pm, the traffic lights are still broken.

They are the responsibility of National Highways which has been contacted for comment.
