A spokeswoman for Chantry Place said: “There was a small fire in one of our tenants’ roof air handling plant sections this morning which was quickly detected and put out by the fire brigade.

"As a precaution we carried out a partial evacuation of the Centre whilst the incident was being dealt with and to ensure the safety of our staff and visitors.

"The Centre then fully reopened and we would like to thank Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service for their prompt response.”

A spokeswoman for Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service said: "The fire was in an isolated air conditioning unit on the roof of the building.

"Evacuation was carried out by the shopping centre, which has very good and well-practised procedures, so we were able to deal with the fire quickly using two breathing apparatus and a single jet."
