The man arrested in connection with a crash that brought the city centre to a standstill has had his bail extended.

The collision happened on Thursday, December 21 last year, between an Audi and Skoda, at the St Stephens roundabout at 4.50pm.

The crash caused long and widespread delays as Norwich's inner ring road became gridlocked.

Police arrested a man in his 20s on March 19 in connection with the crash and released him on bail until June 18 after questioning.

A police spokesman has confirmed the suspect's bail has been extended to September 6 while the investigation continues.

Officers had been pursuing the Skoda in Rose Lane and Market Avenue for failing to stop prior to the incident.

Following the collision the person behind the wheel of the Skoda fled the scene shortly before police arrived.

A man was arrested three months later in Loughton, Essex, on suspicion of stealing a vehicle, dangerous driving, failing to stop and possession of cannabis and an offensive weapon.

The driver of the Audi was taken to the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital with minor injuries.
