A new fish and chip shop on the outskirts of the city centre has opened its doors to foodies.

Dereham Road Chippy opened last month offering a slice of the seaside after taking over from the former Golden House takeaway.

Owner Abu Hussain is pleased with the start the business has had in bringing "traditional fish and chips" back to the area.

Mr Hussain said: "We've had a lot of customers here and it's getting better, so it's going well.

"People have a lot of variety for food along Dereham Road so we wanted to bring traditional fish and chips back here.

"Of course we do cod and chips but we also have burgers, spicy chicken wings and southern fried chicken, which has also been selling really well.

"We also offer a 10pc discount for students every Thursday night and a discount for pensioners during our lunchtime period."

The shop, near Charles Square at the city end of Dereham Road, has employed two full and part-time staff after spending £60,000 on revamping the site.

"I'd also like to look at offering a delivery service in the future, but we want to settle in first.

"It was really busy leading up to the opening of the shop, however I'm confident we'll do well and business will grow over the coming weeks and months."

The shop is open Monday to Saturday between 4.30pm and 9.30pm as well as 11.45am until 1.45pm on Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday.
