Benji's restaurant in Jarrolds to close for three weeks

Benji's in Jarrolds closed yesterday so the refurbishment works could begin.

Located on floor one of the department store, the restaurant is usually open from 10am to 2.30pm on Monday to Saturday.

Hidden in the corner of the ladies' fashion area, the eatery previously offered a breakfast and lunch menu. 

How Benji's looked before the refurb (Image: Jarrolds) Retail managing director John Adams said the new look Benji's Café will have "a relaxed and welcoming ambiance", with a design inspired by a "French artisan boulanger".

A new menu will be launched with patisseries, cakes and savouries on display alongside afternoon tea and a light lunch and salad offer.

To complete the new look, the store has teamed up with local businessman Danial who runs Norfolk Reclamation to use reclaimed wood and materials creatively in the design.

Mr Adams added: "Benji's will be closed for a refit as we continue to innovate and invest in our experiential retail offer and in particular our successful and growing hospitality business.

"It’s important to us that we provide choices to our customers by creating appealing destinations with individual personalities across our six eateries in store."

Jarrolds six eateries include three restaurants, two wine bars, a coffee bar and a seafood bar. 

The department store celebrated its 200th anniversary in Norwich last September. 

The flagship shop opened in Cockey Lane (as London Street was then called) in 1823 where it began life as a bookseller and printer, moving into its current location 15 years later.
