New homes have been given the green light on the outskirts of Norwich despite some locals being unhappy about the plans.

Three three-bedroom bungalows are set to be built on land off Gurney Road in Costessey as South Norfolk Council finally approves plans submitted 18 months ago. 

The homes will be built on the land between 44 and 40 Gurney Road which is currently used as a garden.

Each home will have two parking spaces, a garage and a garden - including 44 Gurney Road, which will be extended as part of the development. 

However, people living in the neighbouring homes raised concerns when the plans were submitted in February 2023.

"We are concerned about access to the properties as the access point is on a bend which is already difficult when cars are parked there," commented one homeowner.

"A major concern for us would be the water pressure problem.

"We have complained on numerous occasions previously when plans have been submitted about the very variable and, at times, very low water pressure.

"If yet more properties are added without the system being upgraded this would only get worse."

Another local added: "The application has raised a number of concerns for us.

"We currently enjoy uninterrupted views from our front lounge window and garden.

"This view over rooftops reveals the splendour of the Valley of the River Tudd, Greenhills Woods and the Wensum Valley beyond.

"That enjoyment of our home and surroundings will be lost to us."

Nevertheless, the application submitted by H Young, E Turner and V Britton has been approved with 14 constraints, including that the building work must begin within the next three years.
