Hethersett community garden vandalism reported to police

Plants were destroyed, tables were burned and baskets were smashed at Hethersett village hall earlier this week, as well as a weather vane which was donated to the parish in memory of a lost loved one. 

Staff discovered the metal vane had been snapped in half and parts of it thrown in nearby raised flower beds.

Guttering had also been torn off a roof and brackets had been badly bent. 

This vandalism has prompted the authority to issue a statement expressing its exasperation over such an attack.

A parish council spokesman said: "This is really disappointing and frustrating for us, the public and especially to the volunteers who have worked tirelessly to create and maintain this beautiful little corner of the village.

"It is not acceptable and we will be checking CCTV and forwarding it to the police."

Witnesses are asked to contact police on 101.

The community garden was converted from a disused skatepark by the Hethersett Environmental Action Team in 2022 with help from a National Lottery grant of £5,300.
